Nokia Booklet 3G buyers can pay it spending €249 upfront and then €20 per month over 24 months. There is also an optional flat rate data tariff of €25 per month. There are no more details, and no launch date for the rest of the world. Remember, in Italy you can already preorder it and Nokia Booklet 3G will be sold in the US by Best Buy. A lot cheaper than in Europe.

Still, there is good news. The Nokia Booklet 3G price will be $599. There is a lot less than the first estimates of $800 and it might give a boost to sales.

We know that laptops are cheaper in US, but this is an important price decision. Maybe Nokia fears the competition from Asus, Dell or Acer that already promise same battery life and better specifications on their next notebooks. Looking at Nokia Booklet specifications, there are some neat features that might give Nokia a head before the pack. But this advantage is not one to last long, and Nokia should quickly make a partnership with a large carrier to avoid engaging  into a price war.

The Nokia Booklet 3G is not exactly an Iphone of the netbook market, so it should not be promoted as a netbook, but as something else. They should concentrate on the business market and hit deep.

The bad news is the price and the availability date. 699 euro is a lot even taking into consideration the highlights of this laptop. And there is still a whole month ahead till the end of October.

Hope that the first customers will not be disappointed, otherwise Nokia Booklet 3G might prove to be a giant marketing mistake. And remember, it is supposed to be Nokia’s first step into conquering the netbook market.

I don’t know if this is the final version of the box, but it doesn’t look premium. Hope it will not go in retail with that box. I know the most of us will recycle the box shortly after buying the Nokia netbook, but still, we’re talking about spending 800 freakin’ bucks, and not for a cheap Chinese replica. I like simple designs like the ones promoted by Apple. But Apple boxes look great, not cheap.

Nokia Booklet 3G highlights

Nokia Booklet 3G is a mini laptop powered by Intel’s Atom processor. It has a 10.1 inch glass HD display with a resolution supposed to be higher than common netbooks. It integrates a hot swappable SIM card and has 3G abilities, as the name suggests.

One of the key features is the very thin aluminium body (.78 inch or about 2cm) which weights only 2.7 lb. Another heavily promoted feature is the 12 hours autonomy, which has to be seen to be believed. It will definitely mett most mobile workers need to have a device to last at minimum 8 hours. So you can be mobile all your work day without searching for a plug.

As for other goodies, Nokia says HDMI output, front webcam and Windows 7 preinstalled. Nokia and Windows, here’s a marriage tokeep an eye on. Remember, for Nokia Internet tablet series, a Linux flavoured Maemo was good enough. Thigs seemed to be changing as Nokia tries to steal a chunck of the very profitable netbook market.
